The Basic Skills examination includes three subtests: Reading, Writing, and Mathematics. Candidates must take and pass all three subtests to qualify for a Minnesota license. You may take one, two, or all three subtests at one test appointment.
Computer-based test (CBT); multiple-choice and written assignments
Reading: 48 multiple-choice questions
Writing: 33 multiple-choice questions and 2 written assignments
Mathematics: 50 multiple-choice questions
Reading: one hour
Through August 2012, one hour and 30 minutes
Effective September 2012, one hour and 45 minutes
Mathematics: one hour and 15 minutes
