*(one male or one female speaker—weather report)

Female : Tiens, salut Julien ! Ça va super bien et toi ?
Male : Je suis un peu embêté.
Female : Ah !
Tu as de quoi noter ?

Question 27

Passage For Questions 31 and 32
Question 31

Question 51
51. An English speaker learning French is learning the indicative present conjugation of verbs from the first group and produces the sentence, "Ils allont au cinéma le samedi." This error is most likely due to:
- overgeneralization.
- code-switching.
- first-language interference.
- using a false cognate.
Answer to question 51
- Answer Enter to expand or collapse answer. Answer expanded
- Correct Response: A. (Objective 0005) Language learners typically overgeneralize newly learned grammatical rules, applying the rules not only to regular examples but also to irregular cases that are exceptions to the rules. This phenomenon occurs in the early stages of both first- and second-language acquisition. In this example, the learner added the third person plural ending "ont" to the stem of the verb "aller," which would be the correct ending for verbs from the first group. However, "aller" is an irregular verb and does not follow the same rule as most verbs ending in "er".

- Schumann's acculturation model
- Chomsky's innateness hypothesis
- Krashen's monitor hypothesis
- Selinker's theory of interlanguage
Answer to question 52
- Answer Enter to expand or collapse answer. Answer expanded
- Correct Response: C. (Objective 0005) The monitor hypothesis is one of five hypotheses composing Stephen Krashen's input hypothesis. Krashen posits that language learners are able to internally scan utterances for errors and use the system of learned rules to make connections before producing an utterance. Self-correction after an utterance is produced is also a product of the learner's "monitor."
Correct Response: C. (Objective 0005) The monitor hypothesis is one of five hypotheses composing Stephen Krashen's input hypothesis. - making production of speech with a near-native accent a primary concern
Answer to question 54
- Answer Enter to expand or collapse answer. Answer expanded
- Correct Response: A. (Objective 0005) In a classroom with a focus on communication rather than accuracy, language learners can feel comfortable taking risks and communicating freely, thus lowering affective filters. If a teacher corrects students frequently, it creates an environment in which students are inhibited and overly cautious about attempting new structures and vocabulary.
