Imagine that you are a German teacher at a secondary school. A teacher from a German-speaking country will be spending the year at your school as part of an exchange program for teachers. Write in German a brief guide for the visiting teacher in which you describe local shopping options (e.g., supermarkets, gift stores, school stores). You may wish to include, but are not limited to, the following topics:
- a description of specific shopping options available to the teacher;
- an explanation of why the teacher might find these options useful; and
- suggestions about how the teacher could find more information about shopping options.

Lieber Herr Posen:
wir freuen uns alle sehr, dass Sie sich entschieden haben, ein Jahr als Deutschlehrer an unserer Schule zu verbringen. Ich schreibe Ihnen, um Ihre Frage zu beantworten, welche Möglichkeiten es in unserer Gegend gibt, Lebensmittel zu besorgen.
Bei uns ist es üblich, dass man die Lebensmittel, die man für die ganze Woche braucht, alle auf einmal in einem grossen Supermarkt einkauft. Diese sind sehr praktisch, weil sie fast alles, was man sich holen muss, zusammen an einem Ort anbieten. Auch haben sie lange Öffnungszeiten, also können Sie meistens einkaufen gehen, wenn es Ihnen am besten passt. Wenn Sie wollen, können Sie auch Mitglied einer grossen nationalen Kette werden. Man zahlt einen Mitgliedsbeitrag und die Preise dort sind sehr niedrig. Dies lohnt sich besonders, wenn man eine große Familie hat, denn es gibt nur große Packungen.
Im Sommer haben wir wirklich Glück, hier auf dem Land zu leben. Von Mai bis September gibt es jede Woche Märkte im Freien, wo man frisches Obst und Gemüse kaufen kann. Dort bieten die Verkäufer auch Milch, Käse, und Honig an, die hier in der Nähe produziert werden. Viele Besitzer kleiner Bauernhöfe legen ihre Ernte auf einen Tisch neben der Strasse. Die Preise stehen auf einem Schild und man bedient sich selbst.
Ich hoffe, Sie haben jetzt eine Ahnung, wo und wie man hier Lebensmittel bekommt. Wenn Sie sich für andere Möglichkeiten interessieren, schreiben Sie bitte wieder. Liebe Anke,
grüß dich! Ich habe neulich an dich gedacht und wollte dir ein paar Zeilen schreiben.
Übers Wochenende fuhr ich mit ein paar Freundinnen in die Hauptstadt und wir sind in Tennessee Williams "Endstation Sehnsucht" gegangen. Ich erinnere mich daran, dass du sehr gern ins Theater gehst. Da du auch amerikanische Literatur studiert hast, nehme ich an, dass du das Stück wenigstens gelesen hast. Es ist das Stück mit der berühmten Szene, in der Stanley Kowalski von der Strasse aus voll Leidenschaft seine Frau "Stella!" ruft. Es gibt in den USA jedes Jahr einen Wettbewerb, um zu sehen, wer am lautesten und am längsten "Stella!" rufen kann. Eine witzige Idee, aber das Stück selbst ist überhaupt nicht komisch.
Die Inszenierung war realistisch und hat die Atmosphäre der Stadt New Orleans in den 40er Jahre evoziert. Man hatte das Gefühl, richtig dabei gewesen zu sein. Die Schauspieler waren zwar nicht weltberühmt aber doch Profis. Die Geschichte ist wahnsinnig traurig und dramatisch, mit viel Gewalttätigkeit. Es hat mit Gesellschaftsprobleme und der Beziehung zwischen Männern und Frauen zu tun. Die Charaktere sind komplex und haben beide gute und schlechte Eigenschaften.
Obwohl ich die Handlung schon kannte, war ich ständig gespannt zu sehen, wie das weitergehen würde. Am Ende, als die tragische Figur Blanche DuBois von den Ärzten weggeführt wird, habe ich natürlich geweint. Es hat einen starken Eindruck auf mich gemacht. Wenn du mal in die USA kommst, müssen wir zusammen einen Theaterbesuch unternehmen.
Und wann kommst du eigentlich? Ich war vor einem Jahr bei dir in Regensburg – jetzt bist du dran! Du wolltest doch nach Kanada, vielleicht können wir uns irgendwo treffen. Schreib mir eine Mail oder ruf mich bald an.
