Minnesota NES Essential Academic Skills EAS
The MTLE Basic Skills Test was discontinued and replaced by the Minnesota NES Essential Academic Skills test effective August 30, 2016. MTLE candidates are required to take three Minnesota NES Essential Academic Skills (EAS) subtests: Reading, Writing, and Mathematics Read important information about registering for subtests.

Computer-based test (CBT) available through 8/18/24, and online-proctored test available through 3/3/24; multiple-choice and written assignments
- Reading: 45 multiple-choice questions
- Writing: 36 multiple-choice questions and 1 written assignment
- Mathematics: 45 multiple-choice questions

CBT tutorial and nondisclosure agreement: 15 minutes
- Reading: one hour and 15 minutes testing time
- Writing: one hour and 30 minutes testing time
- Mathematics: one hour and 15 minutes testing time
Candidates may take one, two, or all three subtests at one test appointment.

Subtests are administered in separate testing sessions; therefore, candidates must register for each subtest separately.

Passing Score |
520 per subtest, examinees must pass all three subtests. |

Note that the two- and three-subtest options are not available for candidates taking the online-proctored version of MN EAS. For online proctoring, subtests must be registered for and taken separately.
